Federal Student Aid’s mission is to ensure that all eligible individuals benefit from federal financial assistance —grants, loans and work-study programs—for education beyond high school. The programs we administer make up the nation’s largest source of student aid. During the 2005-06 school year, Federal Student Aid provided approximately $78 billion in financial aid assistance to nearly 10 million students and their families. Federal Student Aid’s staff of 1,100 is based in 10 cities across the country in addition to their Washington headquarters.
You have a variety of postsecondary education options from which to choose from. Whether you decide to attend a four-year college or university, community college or technical school, the knowledge you gain will remain with you for the rest of your life, no matter where your life leads you. A postsecondary education gives you more opportunities to become successful. Those who receive higher educational credentials beyond a high school diploma have more jobs to select from and make more money than those who do not choose to pursue an education beyond high school. Here’s one example, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, a person with a bachelor’s degree earns nearly double what a person with only a high school diploma earns.Pursuing education beyond high school is a life enhancing opportunity you should not deny yourself simply because you are not sure it’s for you.
