5 Tips For Landing That Perfect Job After College
5 Tips For Landing The Perfect Job After College
It’s no secret, many people with College degrees do not work in the fields of their degree. This can be for many reasons, they changed their mind after obtaining a degree, the job market changed in their desired field or they simple did not acquire the needed skills to hook the perfect job. Below are 5 tips to help prepare you to go in and take the job you want.
- Get some Gonads. In other words, know what position you want, focus and go for it. If you appear unsure of yourself or all over the board during an interview, then the chances of you landing that job are slim to none…and Slim has left town.
- Be persistant. You’d better have tough skin in today’s job market. Employers want to hire the cream of the crop so if you’re easily disappointed when you’re told “NO”, better get used to it. Some of the top executives of today’s companies applied multiple times for entry level positions in the companies they work for. They didn’t take “NO” for an answer. If you really want the job, continue to but the crap out of the HR manager or Department until they give you a 2nd or even a 3rd interview. If they reject you, find out why and improve in that area.
- Research the Company You Want To Work For. Nothing says you’re prepared to work for a particular company than knowing all you can about that particular company. The interviewers may be quite impressed if you know who the first President of the company was or which markets they were pioneers in. Know your company!
- Consider An Internship or Apprentice position. If you can work for a company part time during College, and you do an outstanding job, you’ll have your foot in the door when it comes time to apply for a permanent position. In some cases, you may go from part-time employee to full time with little or no interviewing.
- Turn Yourself Into A Diamond In A Field Of Coal. If you’re the type who is content with just getting by and following the crowd, don’t be surprised if you have a long wait to land the perfect job of your dreams. On the other hand, if you’ve worked your way through College, have been a over achiever or at the top of your business, then you’ll make yourself attractive to many companies, perhaps even the one your want to work for. Companies want to hire motivated people who can achieve goals. If you can show a number of achievements with the companies you’ve worked for during your College years, you’ve just showed a potential company that you can achieve business success under pressure. They like that!
