If you’re looking for ways to pay for your education, there are some government sponsored programs out there designed for college students. The specific government programs that we’ll be discussing here are the type where you trade work for tuition.
One of the first programs you might want to look into is the AmeriCorps.
With AmeriCorps, you’ll be asked to work for over two thousand non-profit public agencies and community organizations.
People who complete one full year of full time service are elgible for the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. This award will make you elegible for a $4725 grant that can be put towards college or repay existing Student loans.
PeaceCorps volunteers are elgible for a deferment of your Stafford and Perkins student loans. You’ll also be elgible for deferment of your consolidated student loans.
For each you serve in the PeaceCorps, up to 15% of your loan can be forgiven, up to 70%.
Students who become teachers can look into having their Perkins student loans defered.
You must have completed one full year of academic service as an instructor in a specialized field as special needs or math and science.
